Our artists & our promise

ĀHUA is te reo Māori for form, shape, character — the way something appears, and also what it is really like underneath. That second half is the part we care about most.

Contemporary Māori design for everyday life

Not souvenir. Not novelty. Premium everyday carry that happens to be unmistakably from Aotearoa. Every ĀHUA case shares one shell, one leather, full hinge coverage and a built-in kickstand. What changes across the three collections is how loudly it speaks.

How we work with artists

Expression collection artwork is commissioned from Māori artists. The terms are simple and they are not negotiable:

  • Written agreement, rights agreed up front. Commercial use is settled before a single case is made.
  • The artist is named. On the product page and on the box.
  • A royalty on every unit, for as long as the design is sold.
  • Nothing is released without the artist seeing it. Colour, placement, packaging — all of it.
  • No iwi or whānau motifs without permission. Ever.

Why it matters commercially, too

A design that belongs to someone, is credited, and pays them is a design that can't be knocked off by a marketplace seller with a print file. Cultural integrity is the right thing to do. It also happens to be the moat.

Made where

ĀHUA is New Zealand–owned and designed in Aotearoa. Cases are finished, personalised and shipped from Queensland, Australia, and priced in Australian dollars.
